Work starts on £12m RAF Cosford accommodation

Work has started on a £12m accommodation block for personnel living at RAF Cosford.

Fifty en-suite bedrooms, kitchenettes, communal spaces, equipment storage and laundry facilities will be included in the new building at the Shropshire site.

The project is part of a scheme funded by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to create single living accommodation (SLA) blocks for thousands of people serving in the armed forces.

As well as improving life for serving personnel, the MoD said it would also benefit local businesses and help to meet net zero requirements.

Wing Commander Penny Brade, station commander at RAF Cosford, said the base has continued to grow in recent years.

“When complete, the new officers’ mess annex will have a hugely positive impact on those commissioned personnel living on the station, and those who visit for courses and conferences,” she added.

The construction, which is being carried out by specialist firm Reds10, officially began during a recent ground-breaking ceremony attended by station and MoD officials.

The MoD said the site was due to be completed by July 2026.
